Technology for well being: Kenya got mobile app for health care

Kenya, country where humans needs to fight keeping away themselves from rapidly spreading diseases like Malaria, tuberculosis, HIV and many more, are back with optimal use of technology to get rapid improvement in the Human Development Index.  Stephen Kyalo and Keziah Mumo are two innovators for the Health care mobile application. This application was promoted by European Capitalist with around $ 100,000.

Report says, Kenya has total population of 41 million and to serve them and keep them healthy there are only 7 thousand doctors. Another figure which was appealing was, 20 million people in Kenya use cell phone. Thus it was good idea of Stephen and Keziah to launch a health care application. Till now, there are 26500 downloads and almost 15000 are active user of this application. Download rate is increasing approximately by 5000 per week at least. This application bridges the gap between patient and doctor. It charges 2 cents for minute of the consultation which is not very costly for financially challenged people in Kenya. But again this is not charged by the developers but by the telecom service provider Safaricom. Shimba technologies the developers of application will be start fetching the revenue by either premium services or from the doctors up to some extent. Doctors can be charged $ 10 for getting user base of this application.
At the end this is win-win-win situation for Kenyans, Doctors and Telecom as well as developer companies. Kenya being an African country, is struggling to improve health indices and innovations like this will surely help government also for betterment of people.

It has been a high time when technology was to come up with something very new in the field of social networking. facebooking or tweet is enough so it’s time to be realistic. Now when you will be working, shopping in malls, walking through streets, waiting for the bus or waiting for date, suddenly you’re mobile TINGS, and MagnetU device have found someone who is into your area of interest. MagnetU will share your social desires with the world by proximity and will bring you more close to people alike or suitable to you.  Won't it fascinate you? Let see how it will be possible.

What is MagnetU?
Yaron Marodi, a dream-weaver of MagnetU with Dr. Pichas Ziv founded the company to bring Yaron’s dream to reality. First version of MagnetU was available in May 2010. Still the full fledge production and distribution is expected in early months of 2012. MagnetU is a device equal to size of small music player. This device will find people who come under your area of interest in your surroundings. It is very handy small device which you can wear. It will be a bridge between your online social networking and real life. This can prove to be a new dawn for realistic social networking concept. Many people have coined word “Network Society” or “Network Economy” and this will be an important step taking this Tech savvy world towards that.

How MagnetU works?
MagnetU device is mandatory for getting into this new wave. You need to purchase a device which will cost you $24. You will then populate your social desires on www.magnetu.com. You can integrate your facebook and twitter with MagnetU profile. You make you profile based on your interests, hobbies, professional field, business activities and etc. So you can create your image in your profile. Concept is very innovative in itself, which may turn into a big success for the company and redefine the social network with the essence of reality. This can prove very advantageous from the view point of business development. Again changing trend of the world is not as easy as I mentioned here. Challenges like world wide acceptance considering the fact that it cost $24 per individual. It was very easy and free to get into social network till now. MagnetU will need acceptance in huge numbers because it will be not so useful probably if very less number of people will use it. Marketing of product will be very crucial part in making this concept successful. Technology is ever unstoppable.

Now YouTube is not the only one: Yahoo! Videos: Say, No to piracy!!!

India has always advantage of huge consumption in any market. Online video market is also one of them which have experienced exceptional growth over past 2 years in India. Report say more than approximately 30 million individuals use to see online video in India in a month. Average views by one user are around 60 videos.
As a part of its history, Yahoo! Video was actually launched in Year 2006. It was platform where anyone can upload video same as YouTube. But later on, in 2008, Yahoo started giving importance to the Videos which are owned by them. Again in 2011, Yahoo restricted uploading of video by user and only Yahoo! owned videos were available on the site.
There are in total 35 media producer who have partnered this venture. According Yahoo, this is the great move to encourage viewers to get away from extreme piracy going on in Online-video market. The partnered will provide original contents and it will be absolutely free for end viewers. Besides stopping piracy, it is great for end viewers because being it is original content, the quality would be better than the pirated one.

Facebook Phone: Now it’s easier for Facebook freaks

It was announced in end of November 2011, that facebook is going to launch a phone. They are in to collaboration with HTC to design and manufacture this phone. It is assumed that this phone will be on Android platform and have extensive support for HTML5. Still facebook have shared very limited details about the project and refused to comment on the news which gets aired as rumours. It is also assumed that phone will be launched in the market not before year and a half.

Having the advantage of reaching around 800 million users, and also getting itself installed on almost every smartphone, facebook has a greater edge over other companies in launching its own phone. Phone from facebook will be very user friendly for tons of facebook freaks. But seeing on the other side of scenario, facebook will have equal challenges to make this product successful. facebook is just an application installed in the smartphones and other than that smartphones have lot of duties to do for its user like mailing, sharing media and other functionalities. facebook phone should also be very user friendly from all this aspects which are basic for any normal smart-phones at least. Otherwise there will be very less number of user who is actually willing to compromise on this functionality for getting betterment on facebook integration and functionalities.

Experts say that facebook has challenges to convince user to switch from their smartphones to facebook phone. Phone by facebook may not be so appealing for users if it is just based on Android. Facebook should come up with either its own operating system or else can get everything done by HTML5. This may save their efforts and money by using existing technologies rather than going for their own operating system. But still, I personally have high expectation from the cellular device we can name as smartphone by facebook.

Apple iTV: Rarely heard name

Apple TV was launched at the end of year 2006 and second generation was launched in end of 2010. Seeing to the name of Apple TV it seems why Apple has jumped into selling Televisions. But it not the television which Apple is selling but it is just a set top box. Again don’t do mistake by seeing this set top box as a satellite STB. This doesn’t capture the satellite signals and acts as other STBs.  Then what Apple TV is?

You can simply say Apple TV is like a connecting media between your actual television and media sources like your computer, Netflix, YouTube, iTunes store or any computers which have Mac OS X or windows having iTunes configured. Taking about its specification or the features, Apple’s product performance is always undisputable. It has A-4 chip processor. Wi-Fi enabled device which can connect to your Mac Computer or other media and you can enjoy movies and music. It can get sync with any devices having iTunes and works like an iPod of 160GBs. You store mostly 210 hours of HD movies or 36000 songs or 45000 photos. Of course it huge amount of data comparatively. It connects to the media, buffers and stores the data in its memory and gets disconnected from respective media.  Moreover in 2nd generation Apple TV you can connect to application like Netflix or Rotten Tomato for renting movie.

If you see the below image, you will hum in yourself that this is real beauty that device is so small and its performance is so great. Now, talking about its price, Apple TV will cost you in two digits only that is $99. List of application to which will serve you are as follows:

-          Netflix - Movies
-          YouTube - Videos
-          NBA - Sports
-          MLB - Gaming
-          WSJ - News
-          Rotten Tomato - Movies
-          Air play - Gaming

I think that makes worth purchasing Apple TV for this much bucks. What say?

Siri, I love you…! You are beauty

This is what you will say if you meet Siri. Yeah, she is smart-intelligent Siri, which you are thinking about after listening name. You get her free with your iPhone 4S. Siri was born in 2007. Apple is not the creator of Siri but Apple has adopted her from SRI International’s venture group. Seeing to the revenue earned in year 2008 and 2009 which have crossed millions, Apple found good prospect to integrate with iPhone and today Siri is a big player behind successful marketing and selling of iPhone. For information, 4 million iPhones were sold out in the week’s period of its launch. Being Siri was mastered by Apple, it was then not reachable to Androids and other OS. But that was the idea of a creator when Siri born, to make it available for all the platforms.

What Siri can do?
This question can be described in very long list. Siri is like your virtual personal secretary. Siri can set alarms, reminders, play songs, make a call, take down dictations, mailing, go to Internet and search mostly all things you can do it manually. It takes help of Wolfram-Alpha, Yelp, Rotten-tomato and Google too. Siri has been too much accurate in herself that, experts sees a threat for a Google dominance prevailing round the globe.

What made Siri so much successful as an application on technical perspective?
Siri’s working seems very simple but it that complex in actual inside. She works on vocal inputs by the users. She primarily stores the vocal input in the form of digital media. Siri work locally as well as on the network. That means say for example if you request her to play a songs and this can be done locally from the phone where as when you order her to find some restaurant or movieplex she need to connect internet. So after taking input it first of all try to connect to cloud server, with the help of wireless internet or via mobile service provider. Now meanwhile it analyzes the necessity of going to cloud server. If the request of user can be fulfilled locally, it says to cloud, “Thanks Sir! I will take care myself. Don’t bother master.” But this analysis is not as easy as I easily conveyed. It has complex algorithms to decide this thing. There are some statistical models loaded locally in her as well as in her master that is Cloud server. For the execution of user’s request, Siri gets many responses from its algorithms and statistical models but comes with the best of all by prioritizing the bulk of results. If we see the smartness, let take an example. If user requests her, “Call Dimple”, it will go to contact list and see all the probable contacts to be called. Like if contact directory has Dimple Fadia and Dimple Shah, it will ask you, whom to call in case of ambiguity. If you believe me this is just a basic example, she is capable of much much more.

The other side of Siri!
Besides this, Apple engineers have also made Siri character bit funny. If you ask her, “Will you marry me?” then you will get first response, like “Don’t try to flatter me” or “Come on that was not in our contract when you got me”. You will get funny responses for the naughty questions. So, it seems like creator and Apple engineer have poured a life in the application which may even heal a loneliness of user to some extent in a funny way. So get in the Love with Siri, she is open for all. J

iPhone 4S issue: Battery drained, Siri gone dumb

Users has been reporting of battery life in iPhone 4S. They are expecting some more life from the battery when iPhone with iOS 5 was not able to keep itself alive more than 12 hours for some users after full battery charge. Apple confirmed some bugs still in the phone which are responsible for additional battery usage and informed to expect a software update or say patch for the same in short time, they added. If you are facing same problem with iPhone 4S battery life problem tips are, you can stop the location inspection service which is generally constantly working in even standby mode. In addition to that you can turn off your Wireless when not necessary, which may save some charge and you can use talking to your girlfriend or boyfriend late nightJ

Center of attraction for iPhone 4S, has gone dumb. “Siri”, which has been talk of the technology round the globe, because of its intelligence and Technical beauty, has gone silent for many users. Siri is a personal assisting application come with all new iPhone 4S and has attracted too many users and considered to be an important reason of iPhone 4S success. Company has acknowledged the users reporting, regarding the problems persists with Siri. Some says that, this was not surprising because Siri was like just beta version in the phone on which Apple have counted a lot in the advertisements and also added that any smartphone you can take in the world nothing comes without the Bug. Some users have also reported like their Siri was back to the action after sometime automatically.

Facebook comes with new tools to tighten security

Facebook has become so addictive to the user that day by day its popularity and usage is achieving new heights. There are 800 million active user of on single social networking according to company. Saying with this they also showed concerned over the security issue faced by these active users.

As a Security Enhancement, facebook has come up two new security features.
First is “App password”. This will be an additional layer in the facebook password security. At time of login a text message will be sent to your mobile and by providing unique code one will be able to complete the login procedure. This is two-factor authentication. This can stop hackers who have stolen the passwords but if someone opt for this facility this would be an additional overhead always.

Second is “Trusted Friends”. In case of recovering the password, if user is not able retrieve the password via Email then facebook will keep some preselected group of people from the friend list who can pass on the codes to you.

This is security statistics populated by the facebook. Facebook report says that 4% of shared links are spam. Adding to this they say that only one in two hundred user face the spam in a day. They convey that facebook is too much secured social networking and they are too smartly handling facebook security.

Aakash, “I-Pad” (Indian Pad) tablet at INR 1750, India’s changing

India had set an example in front of world by launching INR 1 lakh car, Nano by Tata, in 2009 of being most competitive manufacturing in automobiles. This times its Computer Hardware industry for setting up a benchmark of launching world’s Cheapest Tablet computer. This is better answer to the countries who thought India was lacking the innovation sense and lags behind for producing cheap and quality product compared to other Asian leading manufacturers.

Aakash name is coined for this tablet which means “Sky” in English. A Canadian company DataWind got the bid for the manufacturing of this device which was developed by IIT-Rajasthan, India. This is seen as a revolutionary change in the Information and communication being the government of India have plan to float 10 million devices for the student, who will be able to access their online study material and other necessary data. For students, it will be just INR 1750 a unit. Now you might be eager to know about the configuration and utility of this product and believe me you will have thought to purchase one after reading the following.

These are the features available in the device available in the market at price of INR 2999 as UBI-Slate.
  • 7 Inch tablet with weight of 350 grams only which is very handy in nature.
  • Android 2.2 Froyo OS, a very light OS used for smart phones.
  • 366 MHz processor, with high definition video co-processor and graphic accelerator.
  • 256 MB of RAM which is good enough to do necessary operation on the device.
  • Wi-Fi support for the connectivity and ability to connect to 3G and GPRS services.
  • Dual USB port and 2GB inbuilt Micro SD memory card. Extendable up to 32 GB.
  • USB port which can connect to Web camera.
  • UBI surfer, a light browser which is ten times faster than other mobile browser.
  • Support to document like .doc, .docx, .ppt .pptx, .pdf with 3.5 mm Headphone Jack.

  • SIM slot and Access to Android marketplace for downloading Android apps.

Don’t you think to buy one? If yes then also you can wait for much more in near future. Suneet, CEO of DataWind added in the speech about the future enhancements in the same. We can expect 600 MHz and may be 1.2 GHz processor in near future. Company is trying to tie-up with 2 Mobile service provider for providing GPRS service as cheap as like INR 99/month. Suneet said, “We don’t want to compare this product with the tablets by Apple and Samsung because Aakash is designed for each and every Indian who wishes to use tablet at affordable price without compromising quality.” Except this, company is coming with new 5 inches touch screen Android smart mobile phone and 9 and 10 inches tablet at price of around INR 5000 only, Suneet added in conversation.

ADS: Weapon Evolution: Pain like fire, Injury is zero

As you know always technology is very invasive in itself. It is Unstoppable always. As far as War Weapons are concerned, researches and inventions have been imaginable. Think of a weapon which hit you with the heat and that much heat which is unbearable, it may result in to severe skin burn. You won’t be able to bear for more than 2 seconds and no injury. Researchers are really incredible in this sense. I am talking about ADS (Active Denial System). Now lets us understand what basic fundamentals are, which makes this weapon so effective.

If we try to understand in Lehman language, then this is nothing but electromagnetic or we can say laser rays which generated massive heat on the things it is applied. If we go in to the specification of this system, it generates electromagnetic radiations with the frequency of 95 GHz. Simply think that you are being in to Microwave for two seconds and how will you feel. Let us understand what happen when that laser rays touch to your skin. This ray goes dip to say 1/64 inches and pokes in the skin. Biologically "ye hota hai ki" fat molecule and water gets excited which is painful for nervous system. Except this it has very good range of around 500 metres to 600 metres minimum to make a strong effect. As far as eyes are concerned, then blinking of eyes is the solution which doesn’t harm the eyes much. It has even very less effect to result in to the cancer or other skin problems. You might be thinking that how this could be a very useful weapon?

Seeing to the feasibility and usability, this is very much useful to disburse the crowd, to stop group attack and most important thing is it’s so powerful that it difficult for normally dress body to resist from this rays. This technology becomes useful for torturing "high profile" prisoners. US army have deployed this in the Afghanistan but it was not so fruitful application of this technology. In the Image you can see that this is generally mounted on the Humvee (US army hummer type vehicle). This can be an alternate to control mass opposition where CRPF and Para-military force need to take offensive action of tear gas and water-shot to control crowd. This could be effective and safe alternative. Technology is ever Unstoppable.

Robots that learns from the Human activities

Pieter Abbel, Professor of University of California have designed a robert which have sort   of intelligence to learn the activities from the human. Briefing about the Pieter, He has been selected in the top 35 innovators round the globe for exceptional innovation. Pieter thinks that the robotics is the very prime area of innovations seeing to the scientific world after 15 to 20 years.

Robot learns seeing human to performs the task. Other robots needs to programmed to perform some task which limits the robustness of the robots. Where as this robot is very robust in itself. I can make a laundry for his master or it can fly model plane by itself. Usually robots are used in the Manufacturing areas to do task repeatedly and accurately as for that they are programmed stereotype. This is an extension to usability of robot in the near future for day today work because advancement in Artificial Intelligence.
It was illustrated by the robot how it can fold the towels seeing and learning from humans. This robot has been programmed to program itself on the observance of activity by the perception mechanism to figure out what to perform for accomplishment of task. It identifies the crumbled tovel on the table and by the camera sensors oh its so called head helps instructing its arms to fold perfectly like our moms. This type of robots will be a revolution in the day to day life of people but one thing to think is that is it feasible even after 20 years to have robots to complete house hold work.

Video Stabilization Processing on YouTube

As a result of IEEE conference on computer vision and pattern recognition, Google researchers have designed algorithm to stabilize the recording of video. Many a times when amateur records a video, it seems very unsteady recording because of lack in steadiness of hand. So, now Google has answer to this problem after good research. YouTube the largest video streaming site by Google is jewelled with this functionality in the video editor it have recently.

Algorithm which is developed for this is working quite efficiently and still enhancement are expected regularly on this. Algorithm set a Key element in the video and it checks for the fluctuations in the frames. It crops the additional area which is recorded and focus on the key element which reduces the fluctuation visibility as shown in image. It designs some path to modify the video and choose the best where video is crop least and can get the best output. Still it is a challenging task to handle the shakiness because of the unstable base of say recording while walking. Researchers are still trying to optimize so that user interference get decreased and results get enhanced. The processing of video is done server side obviously, and it is done by distributed computing that means by using multiple machines to process one video at real time. This increases the speed of processing and gives a user delightful experience. Google is always unstoppable on its part.

Do we need android-powered Refrigerators?

Samsung is making the refrigerators having a tablet embedded in it. It seems that Samsung is focusing more on utilizing as much as technology innovation and put it into their products. With this they end up launching high valued product.

It would be a feel good factor for the consumer if they design refrigerator connected with internet and able to exploit the advantages. Refrigerator may tweet about the current temperature and give updates to the user. This must be more useful then the tablet.

Samsung RF4298HARS is tablet and Wi-Fi enabled refrigerators, which cost $3500 to end user. If Samsung have embedded Wi-Fi system rather than a tablet, it may have cost less to End users. But being Samsung is already into embedding the tablets in to appliances we can expect the same in Washing machines and Microwaves. The limitations that can bother the manufacturer are the IPV6 range which will be quickly be over flooded by the Internet enabled appliances.  But yes, researchers and companies will be keep on surprising the user and market with the innovation like this.

Let your phone and technology guard your Sedans

Now you can immediately rush to your car, when anyone struck it hard even when you are apart from it. For Lortz, a senior researcher at Intel lab, get updates in his smart-phone if someone try to get into car or struck the car. He is currently working for the same. Intention is to have some spy in the car in form of electronics. It can be anything like Tablet or a Net book which can connect to internet and send an update to the user’s phone.

Researchers from Intel have apps for iPhone and Android which can communicate with the electronic setup at the car. This can be extensively useful like for locking-unlocking door, Starting up engine and much more. Lortz says, “Getting notified about your car is very appealing”. Idea is that even the car performance should be logged and sent to the owners, manufacturers and like insurer. Some fast mover car manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Toyota, and Audi have configure the cars in a way that it can use Internet connectivity of smart-phone for Web radios and all.

Survey says, Car users are more crucial on the safety and security but equally it is expected that car user gives good response on the entertainment areas via this technology. But for now Lortz and team was successful to setup a computer interface in the car which give many new innovation in the same. He and colleagues say it can work on barcode for authentication and wireless technology for the data transfer on the tapping the car.

Are you in dilemma? Google+ or Facebook or Twitter, Here you go...

Google+ has marked 20 million+ users in so short time span. Most of users are still in between the both major Social networks that is Facebook or Google+. Technology has solution for most of the problem and we are good at exploiting it. Ha-ha.

An Add-on is now available for Google Chrome. By this now user will be able to consolidate Google+, Facebook and Twitter. This add-on will be soon available for Firefox too. The name of the add-on is “Start Google+”, provided by Zane Klaes. Now this add-on works on the basis of API provided by the Facebook and Twitter. Installing this add-on just takes seconds and you are there. Additionally on User Interface of Start Google+, there is flag box which will keep you notified on receiving of emails on Gmail.

Now all the updates and tweets from the Facebook and Twitter respectively will be visible in the main page of Google+. Now as a drawback identified till now with this add-in is that the filter which a user may have kept for specific friends does not works here. So unlike Facebook if you link your accounts of Facebook and Twitter account to Google+ then you will receive all the updates and tweets without filter. Still Zane says that he is working on to give functionality like this in the add-on also. Stats depict affirmative response from the user as 100 thousand+ users have already adapted this add-on and at least 60% of them are actively using the same. Interestingly, Google+, Facebook as well as Twitter has not yet banned this add-on still so it is expected that it will be a boon to users and day today the add-on will be optimizing for better functionalities.

Success of Angry Birds

“This success is not achieved overnight.  We built around 50 games before this”, says Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio Chief. Angry birds have marked a 300 million downloads and targeting to be the first among all the entertainment franchisee to reach up to 1 Billion Fans worldwide.

Angry Birds was made with at most care for players so that at any point of entertainment, players don’t get stuck to some level and get bored. It was prime important to keep balance between the frustration and the excitement created in the game. “Game should be addictive but not like smoking”, Peter added.  Designers were very analytical on the success expectation with this game and said to people that the success of this game, should not be associated with the luck but with the work.
Besides the games they had come up with toys which sales figures have touched to 8 million units already. Game has got a trademarked red sweatshirt with Angry Bird on it. We can expect a feature film and novel based on the “Angry Bird” game.  They are planning to launch a cook book with egg recipes also.

Ah!! Give Google Vocals for searching your keywords

It will not be a fiction when we brag out the keywords and search engine gives the respective results. Google is working on Speech recognition mechanisms for its search engine. Will you really be able to leave the keyboard in front of you if you get this gift from Google?
If you see the smart phones, this functionality of speech recognition is present from last three years. This is provided in Android phones much efficiently. Now when you are using Google chrome browser you will find Microphone icon built in the text box on Google Search Engine page.

People have started using this functionality via Android phones.  According to Vincent Vanhoucke the number of inputs for the search via speck recognition has increased to up to six times from last one year like every day thousands of hours of audio is inputted in the Google server. But it will be a challenging task to implement it on the Desktop and up to major extent in Laptops too. Now it is not an easy task to filter out the background sound of someone speaking, Fan rotation or others when Microphones are used for Desktops. This was easy task in Smart Phones. Laptops mostly have the Microphone but it also faces same problem as Desktops.
Google tried out with thousands of people and asking them to input their speech and test the efficiency by which the process gets trained further. People have less tolerance when you let them use something very new. People may get surprising response on take this as very positive move and they get ready to change their conventional way of using the computers and search engines. W3C, Mozilla, Microsoft, AT&T are also helping on betterment for this collaboratively.

Big Q: Will Google+ will Minus Facebook usage?

It was surprise for most of when came to know that Innovation Leader Google has copies almost all the things of Facebook and launched a new Social Networking site when Facebook is booming like anything. Unexpectedly found replica of User Interface also overlooking the features and functionality.

But then what is the entire Crux which makes Google+ even able to stand in front of Social network giants who has already grabbed millions of users like Facebook, Twitter and all.

·         First and foremost, Human tendency of expecting a change and explore new things take the users to all new Facebook renamed as Google+ (Disclaimer: Almost J). People are always fond of new things and especially when it is part of their daily routine.
·         Secondary, people start using Google+ just because their friends insist to use it. So they can’t resist and can’t be on old social networking site so, that make user to at least reach up to Google+ sign up.
·         Google+ has given an opportunity to the Facebook-Weary people to move on new platform which is like “Reset to Facebook”. Some user who may don’t want old friend to be connected with and can’t even De-Friend them, then this is the way to come over it.
·         It has come up with 10 person Video chat feature called as Hangouts.  This will gradually support Google to attract user towards G+ then FB.
·         Google+ is much better in terms of security and privacy worries.
·         Twist in traditional way of going for Friend request and acceptance. Google has come up with concept of “Circle”. One can create its own Circle and add people into it who shares same interest. Here one Privacy feature is if you don’t add that person to your circles they will not get any notification unlike to Facebook it can be an offense by not confirming the request.
·         Google might come up with filter options for the post between different groups of people, which Facebook already have, before Google+ end its Trial period with limited people. But as of now Google+ lags behind on that.
·         It is still Ads-Free where Facebook’s has 30% of it wall is occupied by Advertisements. Moreover Facebook has viral apps that keep spamming your wall like “Hadrique has taken test” and “Sagar’s horoscope for week”.
·         Unlike Facebook, user doesn't need to approve 776 friend requests and moreover user won’t be like feel rude when others block their updates.

Anyways but Google has challenged a King of Social Networking “Facebook”. The Facebook is not going to take it lightly and nor The Google. Let see the interesting rivalry that have started.

Tablets at the Corporate, CISCO will bang tablet market

Now Tablets for your Office desk also. Cisco Revolution If you think that tablets are for casual use only then Cisco has given better answer by developing a Tablet which will replace your desktops on your office desk. Tablet world's market is going to face one tougher competitor when Cisco will introduce its CIUS in the market.

What is good about it? Why should Apple, Samsung and other Tablet producers fear CIUS? Here is the answer,
• CIUS runs on Google's Android.
• Cisco has selected open source OS i.e., Android, so rather going into developing its own OS it has extended Android and customized it from low level to make it better in terms of Corporate Use. The CIUS have featured a Radical Reworking of Android.
• CIUS can be integrated with Cisco's voice and Video phone system which corporates or offices might be using. It connects to the desktop computer, keyboard, and mouse and importantly to the Cisco desk extension phones.
• This will allow user to receive the Desk Phone calls remotely on their tablets and this is an exceptional facility from CISCO.
• CIUS has HD quality cameras on both sides which will help for Video calling.
CIUS can easily switch between Wi-Fi and cellular Network Connection (used for private calling).
• As Android is an open source platform, CIUS will get an advantage of getting the devices customized for the big corporates and will be greater attraction for corporates to go for CIUS?
• CIUS has powerful processing capacity as it uses ATOM 1.6 GHz processor designed by Intel.
• Cisco has foresight. Cisco will have its own Malware-free application store so that manager do not have to visit other stores and can protect their network from malicious apps.
• On security level Cisco under Google's mentoring will make use of Dedicated chip for encrypt all its data.

CIUS, Wi-Fi version will cost you only $750 or around Rs. 35000 in India. This could be even Rs. 5000 less on limited services. AT & T and Verizon may offer 4G network to it. Vice president and Analyst says, "Cisco has likely delivered something that none of the 200 or so other tablets launching this year can match". Cisco has added value to enterprise need which is unique combination of phone, tablet and video-conferencing device.

Features having a negative impact on "The CIUS" are,
• 2 inches smaller screen compared to it Cut throat competitor IPad-2.
• Uses older Version of Android name “FroYo”, made for mobile use.
• Still the first version may not be good at security compared to other tablets.

Cisco has also clarified that it will aggressively support iPads and iPhone application they are providing under collaboration with the same and if it seems not working out they will put extra efforts to support the most popular tablet that is iPads.

Facial Robots are here.

Now, it’s you at two different places at same time
You on your bed and your replica is attending meeting
Humans were expecting teleportation in 21st century but it seems like not possible in near future. But you know we humans are not at all going to stop and find out another way to satisfy that desire and here we are. Now the scene is like you land on your computer and see and speak in remote location and also move around up to greater extent.
Two Robots namely Anybots, VGo were already set to rock the market and the third ROBOT ready to join them. Suitable technology has developed ROBOT named “Texai”, which is about to launch in market but probably in next year. Problem with the Anybots and VGo is person who is interacting with you at remote place cannot see operator’s clearly but in place of that operator was getting good surrounding feel and look and feel of people around at remote place. Anybots use to show only the still photo of the user while VGo is just 4 feet long Robot with small resolution screen. This is the area where Texai can beat and the market of the previous inventions and go ahead of that and two way interaction will be possible later on.

VGo user says, "My robot body could do some of the basic things I would do in person: move around the office to talk and listen, see and be seen. But it couldn't do enough. In a group conversation, I would clumsily spin around attempting to take in the voices and body language outside my narrow range of vision. When I walked alongside people, I sometimes blundered into furniture, or neglected to turn when they did. Co-workers were tolerant at first, but they got frustrated with my mistakes."
Now Texai Robot has only one limitation that it as it does Two way communication efficiently, it need good bandwidth for having uninterrupted relay. But hoping good high speed internet facility is available now in mostly all the House and Business work place says Willow Garage, Co-Designer of Texia.

A Biologically Inspired Search Engine

Ever found a product in a store and wondered if you could get it cheaper somewhere else? Soon a visual search tool will be able to help. Take a snapshot of the product with your phone and it will automatically pull up online pricing information.
The technology, developed by Cortexica, a start-up spun out of research conducted at Imperial College London, has already been used to create a wine comparison app called WINEfindr. Last week, the company launched an application-programming interface (API) for the technology, which will allow others to build similar apps.
It's a bit like the bar-code scanning apps that link a physical object in the real world to online content," says Anil Bharath, a researcher at Imperial and cofounder of Cortexica. "But rather than having to create a QR code, it recognizes the object itself," he says.
Cortexica's Visual Search platform uses techniques inspired by the human vision system to compensate for different lighting conditions. It identifies key features of an object irrespective of their orientation, size, or how dark or light they appear in the image. This makes it possible to identify products at a distance or even while they are moving. Cortexica's technology can also spot logos and objects in videos.
"The technology is interesting, but they aren't giving away much," says James Ferryman of the computer-vision group at the University of Reading, in the U.K.
Ferryman notes that other visual search tools already exist, such as Google's Goggles, which recognizes many objects, labels, and landmarks and automatically searches the Web for information about them; and TinEye, a service that lets users upload an image and search the Web to find webpages on which the thing pictured appears.
Another of Cortexica's cofounders, Jeffrey Ng, says his company's technology is more accurate and scalable than any other now available.
The human vision system compares different points of an image with its neighbours’—a phenomenon known as "edge extraction"—in order to identify features in a range of different conditions. "We have basically copied that architecture," says Bharath. Cortexica uses graphical processing units (GPUs) to handle the parallel processing.
Coping with variations and resolving them is a major issue in computational vision, says Ferryman. "It's crucial. If you can't have this invariance, then you can't do reliable matching," he says.

You will say, “Ah! Yes my house runs on Android”

Oh! Come on I am not going to stand up and switch on the damn lights and fans. Have you ever thought that, there should be something in our hand which can control all electronics of our House? It should turn off your oven sitting on sofa busy in watching something interesting on TV. All the damn electrical appliances can be managed from small device in your hand. Now this time is not too far friend.

Technological freaks at Google have come up with a concept of Controlling home via Android. Obviously it sounds weird but actually it is reality and so that in some while we will able to see in our houses. “We'd like to think of Android as the operating system for your home” Joe Britt, who is leading this project at Google. The device “Tungstens” will act as interface between tablet or android phone and home appliances. This will remotely allow operating anything.

Researchers have demonstrated that how this can change the gaming experience. You can have light emitting blubs and surrounds, which are in synch with your game via Tungsten device. Now in Counter Strike whenever you will “Fire in the Hole” with grenade and your room ambience will make you feel like grenade explosion and firing.

Google encourage other companies to research and develop the product based on this technology because Android is open source software. This device uses the Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet as well as new low power wireless standard of Google’s own invention to link with other devices. Moreover in demo, built-in device RFID reader helps to read the CD which is not inserted in CD player or personal computers. Another wonderful usage is to use this technology as alarm. Just think of it that when alarm triggers, LED lighting in room changes like a morning and you are waking up with sweet music rather than “te ne ne ta… te ne ne ta…”
Now, we just need to wait and watch for the arrival of things like this in our life. It will really make a man so comfortable to make us so lazy creatures more than Croc.

Provide snaps and 3-Dimensional object is ready

Autodesk, Software Company is going to launch freeware named Photofly which can generate 3D model. Software is available for Windows platform, uploads photo to cloud server and process the photo and parameters for generating 3D model out of it.
This technology works on density of the object like laser scanner works. Although this technology won’t cost you thousands of bucks as it needs are just 35-40 photos with required angles. Say for example, if we want to make a 3D model of a person you need to capture snaps of the head and shoulders of that person and just give it to Cloud server to process it into 3D model. You can print this model with the help of 3D printers which is not so costly these days and you can have print-out of 3D models in forms of ceramics, plastics and metals.

Autodesk will be the first company to launch such an application and on other hand Microsoft Researchers are coming up with substitute product of Photofly that is ‘PhotoSynth’. Addition to that it will be application by which you facilitate your cell phone to convert its photo into 3D models says Mathews.
It might interest you to take a hawk eye view about working of this technology. The Application ‘Photofly’ goes through many processes like identifying the position of camera and triangulating it based on different views and certain distinctive features. Further going too sharp, it triangulates the view more efficiently on second round.
Yuan-Fang Wang, a computer scientist at the University of California, said that “Technology has become very robust and simple to place this in front of consumers but there are some limitations which may be concerns for the same”.  “The efficiency of the technology will be tested hard when snaps will be taken in dark light or too flashy environment”, he added. As a major implementation of this technology, paleontologist named Louise Leakey in Kenya have captured early human bones with accurate measurements of specimen, such as spacing and sizing of teeth. On other hand as major usage we can see Photofly helping Engineers in retrofitting the building and saving their time, efforts and resources. They can with the help of Photofly, quickly figure out what need to be done to make building more eco-friendly.

Your palm becomes your iPhone

It will be past, when you are using your smartphones holding in your hands and tapping the screen. Now when we are going so strong on sixth sense technology implementation, German researchers have decided to apply the same technology on simplifying the usage of smartphones. You will be having an imaginary phone screen on your palm and you need to just tap your palm to operate your phone and the system sends the command to actual phone.
The system relies on three wonderful piece of technology, they are depth sensitive camera, software analysing the picture, and wireless radio to send the instruction back to actual phone. Patrick Baudisch, say “serves as a shortcut that frees user from the necessity to retrieve the actual physical device”. Now if you are driving a car and you need to attend the phone call, you don’t need to tap the phone screen rather you can just receive by one click of your finger on your hand. Guys, See here how it will work...

The concept is very thoughtful and innovative implementation of the Sixth Sense technology developed by Pranav Mistry and Pattie Meas. But this is all together a different way of exploiting the Sixth Sense Technology. Here first of all, there won’t be any strict gestures to learn like suggested before. Moreover this is feedback free way of using Sixth Sense Technology, which means there will be nothing like projector or any interface which will provide reflection of your acts. On first thought you may be finding bit weird but all together it’s not completely replacing the physical existence of actual smart phones rather it is just a way of making interaction with actual phone more convenient.

Crisp of the technology is capturing the gestures of the person. Camera focuses the finger position on the palm and subtracts the background. This technology has worked in harsh lighting conditions and on over brightness too. Software identifies finger positions and correlates with the object position on the actual screen of iPhone. As said mentioned earlier Wi-Fi radio transmits these movements to the phone.

Study carried out in October, it has been found out that usually people finds correct position of 2/3 icons on the blank iPhone and on the tapping they are 80% accurate. Daniel Vogal, postdoctoral fellow of University of Waterloo, says “It’s a little bit like learning to touch type on the keyboard, but without any formal system or the benefit of the feel of the keys.” He added that voice control can also be a better serving option but have some limitations like it can fail in noisy environment. Anyways we will always be waiting for such a wonderful piece of innovation which will make out like more lethargic but pretty interesting and full of technologies all around.
